Who Am I?
Hi there! I’m just a person who really likes books. Especially the books that maybe leave you thinking or stay with you awhile after you read them. Plus, books have pretty much always been a constant in my life. Whether I’m curled up on the couch, camping, staying up too late with a good thriller, at a coffee shop, or traveling on the Alaska Marine Highway with a Coke Zero in hand. And I’m always grateful after finishing a novel that is so beautifully written, entertaining, and profound that the vibes of the novel almost “hang in the air.” To put it plainly: the story lingers. Hence, the name of my website.
Here, you will find the novels that fascinate me. The ones that made me feel something, no matter if that feeling was frustration, heartbreak, awe, or joy. I don’t claim to be a professional critic, AT ALL. I’m simply someone who likes to talk about all of our favorite or most despised books and why. You’ll also find a mix of genres in here, but I tend to gravitate toward myth retellings, psychological thrillers, emotionally complex fiction, and stories with strong and layered characters. I’m especially drawn to books that offer fresh perspectives, challenge expectations, or shine a light on voices that we often don’t hear from enough.
You might be wondering why I chose to invest my time, energy, and money into building this website. Well, here’s the honest answer: somewhere along the way, I traded in my books for my phone. At first, I didn’t even notice it happening. It was just a habit. But over time, that habit pulled me into a space that felt unfamiliar and somewhat scary. Scrolling became my escape, but it slowly turned into a trap. A trap that was filled with comparison, jealousy, and this quiet, constant ache that I wasn’t enough. Social media, unfortunately, also turned my body into a project I could never finish. I think a lot of young women can relate to that, modernly. Every glimpse of myself became a reminder of what I lacked, not of what I had to be grateful for.
Choosing to spend my time in novels and writing again shifted something in me. I feel more grounded, more at peace, and much more like myself. It’s also a lot easier to focus on college when I’m not scrolling on Instagram during my online lectures. Anyway, this is primarily a space where I get to write about something that makes me happy without the voice of an algorithm, or the quiet lies of comparison, but something real and something that draws me back. It’s like my “touching grass.”
I sincerely hope that my reviews can help you find stories that you enjoy, and maybe subtly remind you that there is a reason why social media doesn’t really push novels or anything that could potentially pull you away from their app. Long-form reading requires your attention, imagination, and time…which is exactly what these platforms don’t want to give up. So, of course I had to put the books on here that helped pull me away from constantly being on these self-disrupting platforms.
If you’re looking for your next read and strive for honest book reviews, or just a fellow reader who loves discussing the stories that linger, you’re in the right place. Also, I love it when people reach out to me and send me some of their favorites, too! So, please do!
Thank you for being here, and happy reading. 💫
